This is the big one! Ferdia Shaw took time out of his day (on the release day for Disney’s Artemis Fowl, no less!) to talk to AFC about what it was like stepping into the fabled suit as Artemis Fowl II, working with Sir Kenneth Branagh & Judi Dench, getting punched by Lara McDonnell and MORE!
I could barely get through the first two minutes of this interview without pulling my hair out. Ferdia Shaw is not Artemis Fowl. After watching the movie nothing he’s saying sounds true. I can’t believe for even a second that he’s ever known anything about Artemis except the trash written in the casting call. In the movie he wasn’t even all that cold and he had way too many emotional outbursts. And that question near the end… he had that expression like “that came completely out of left field” that you see on people that either haven’t read the books or only skimmed through them without really reading them. It perfectly illustrates the difference between Ferdia and the true Artemis though.
Ferdia: “‘Yes.'”
Artemis: “‘I don’t like lollipops.’ It was a woefully inadequate response, and Artemis was instantly appalled with himself. Pathetic really. I don’t like lollipops. No self respecting criminal mastermind would be caught dead using the word lollipops. He really would have to put together a database of witty responses for occasions such a this.”
I’m really hoping there isn’t a sequel. With any luck they’ll remake the movie in another decade and it’ll actually be an accurate film, or at least a good film.

If either of you were truly obsessed with AF you would be able to see how horrible this movie was and how out of character Ferdia’s “Artemis” is in comparison to the true Artemis in the books.
I think they should have done the film more true to the books, but if it was an original idea ( which I’m not saying it is) by Diseny then it would have been a great film.
