(Says who? Says me, of course. KearaAdara, because I’m so qualified to judge these gadgets.)
I’ve counted – not that difficult, really – and found that the Artemis Fowl series has exactly 4 characters who are officially considered geniuses. (Okay, Artemis, genii. Happy now?) Anyway. With that amount of intellect, the series naturally has many gadgets well ahead of our time, from time-stopping equipment to titanium pods… Granted, they’re mainly made by Foaly, but what are the best, coolest inventions that he would like to brag about the most? Here are the 5 that I, for one, would definitely like in my life.
5) Iris Cam
Creepy stalking abilities all the way! Besides the endless amounts of fun that would’ve been able to give us immature Mud People, it’s also helped our beloved protagonists out of many a sticky situation. Be it in the prison of Jon Spiro’s tower or while negotiating with an evil criminal mastermind in Fowl Manor, it’s a simple but useful tool. Not to mention it beat Opal Koboi’s wing design in Foaly’s college fair.
4) Dragonfly Wings
Alright! I’m a lazy person and would love to fly instead of walk, so that’s why this is even on my list. But from the perspective of the book as a whole, it shows how far the People have come – jetpacks are a part of almost every vision of the future. Holly Short loves them, and they’ve helped facilitate many a quick getaway… What more would you want?
3) Section Eight Helmet
I honestly don’t know what abilities the Section Eight helmet has, and that’s what makes it the most cool. Yes, I do in fact remember the bouncy impact beads that Foaly is so proud of, but other than that – plus a built-in camera, microphone, digital visor, a pollution mask, and a self destruct system – there isn’t really all that much in it… Oh wait, there kind of is.
2) The C-Cube
Being the base of the entire third book, it’s obviously something precious. Equipped with an omnisensor, its ability to read almost any medium, whether or not it has a direct connection with it, makes it the most revolutionary piece of technology ever to be made by a human. Although it’s based off of obsolete fairy technology, it’s still an achievement (stop arguing). And of course, it’s made by the one and only Artemis Fowl II.
1) Neutrino Series
Well…
Duh.
Whilst the above are surely the ‘best’ gadgets in the series, we’re sure you’ve got ideas of your own. Which are your favourites? Let us know below!

Ok, so I understand that the Neutrino spears way more often than the C-Cube, but the C-Cube is… the C-Cube!!! Oh, and does one book circle completely around it? I think not. Therefore, it outranks the Neutrino. Thank you. #nerd
AGREED. Not only is the C-Cube based on a whole book, but it’s also created by THE Artemis Fowl the Second. That gives the C-Cube major brownie points.
Thanks guys, I regret my life decisions now.
OK, in all seriousness, oops. Probably should have thought that over. My rationale, though, is that while the Neutrinos have saved our heroes many a time, the C-Cube was the cause of a whole book’s worth of trouble. Just my opinion though.
-Keara (yes, the very awkwardly defensive author)
The is a great list! I think Foaly’s Critters mentioned in The Time Paradox when Holly is going after the kraken are super cool as well. 🙂
The dragonfly wings are better than the C-Cube!
No way. The C-Cube is THE most advanced piece of technology in the world. Foaly said, and i quote: ‘My security encryptions folded like they weren’t there…’
Hey! Did you just say that Holly loves dragonfly wings?! Whaaaaat! On page 50-51 in the first Artemis Fowl book, it states that when Holly unhooked a set of wings from their bracket, she moaned aloud when she saw they were dragonfly wings. Then it says that Holly prefers the Hummingbird Z7, as it is whisper silent and is equipped with a satellite-bounced solar battery that could take you twice around the earth.
