Artemis Fowl secures MOVIE DIRECTOR Kenneth Branagh

Deep breaths, everyone. Compose yourselves.

After over a decade in development, with false starts, disputes and any number of other delays – it looks like it might, just might, be happening.

According to Variety’s sources, Kenneth Branagh (that’s SIR Kenneth Branagh to you and me!) has signed on to develop and direct Disney’s movie adaptation of ARTEMIS FOWL. Irish playwright Conor McPherson is in talks to pen the script.

Sir Branagh is no stranger to YA film adaptations, having starred as Professor Gilderoy Lockhart in the Harry Potter series – so here’s to hoping that he delivers with the movie we’ve been waiting for for close to 15 years!

  1. I hope this is true and isn’t true at the same time, i love Artemis fowl but i am afraid the movie is going to fail, also i really wanted Asa Butterfield to play Artemis but now hes kinda to old.

    • I understand how you feel. I would love to see Artemis Fowl as a film, but I’m so worried it will be killed like so many other adaptations of my favorite books (looking at you Cirque du Freak).
And I’m totally with you, Asa Butterfield would’ve been great…….maybe he can still pull it off!

  2. It was just a few months ago I said I think David Mazouz (Bruce Wayne in Gotham) would make a great Artemis. Dependant on the quality of his Irish accent, of course.

  3. I am a huge fan of Eoin Colfer! I would love for this movie to happen! But also very afraid that it will not be as good as its potential. I hope they pick the best actor to play artemis fowl. To capture all his emotions, all his brilliance.
