The Interview
The past month has been a very busy one for AFC. On the 28th, we met up with Eoin Colfer in a secret London location for an exclusive interview! Now, this interview isn't just any interview... the man himself has told us the basic plot for AF:TTP... oops, did I say that out loud? I meant to say AF6! He's told us his idea for a Supernaturalist sequel, he has told us all about his upcoming charity t-shirt project, and so much more!

We're still writing the interview up, but it will be ready sometime this week. When?! I hear you cry... well, we think it'd be rather nasty and suspenseful if we didn't even tell you that! Just keep checking your inbox, and before this Friday, you'll have an e-mail from us... but for now, here's a little teaser:

"...I'm working on Artemis 6, which involves a lot of time travel, which you have to be clever and careful about..."

New Design
Things have been fairly slow around the actual site this month, but that will change. We're working on a new design, with lots of new features! We'll keep you posted!

Foaly's Corner

Six-hundred years ago...

Part 1 of 3...

In Commander Julius Root’s calendar, few dates were ever circled or remembered. Some of those lucky few dates were the Artemis Fowl affair, the B’wa Kell uprising, and of course, the day when Holly punched Artemis in the nose. But what of the notable dates from Julius' life before promotion to Commander? Well, while sorting out Julius’s will, I found a date not merely circled in red, but marked with UV sensitive light, a rainbow, five ribbons, two blue stars, a medal pinned on the date, and (in a fit of artistic passion I had never thought Julius possessed), huge pink arrows pointing to the date. After looking at the date, I realized why it meant so much to Julius, as it was burned into my memory as well.

Six hundred years ago, when Julius and I went to college together, the Council passed a law requiring prospective graduates to pass a survival exam. The rules were simple: judged in groups of three, fairies had to cook a dish using nothing but the ingredients they could find in the wild (or at least, the computer-simulated artificial wild environment). These dishes would be presented to a judge, and the best-tasting one would pass. Those who failed would try again... next year.

Call it luck, call it fate, call it what you will, but one of my rival examinees was my high school nemesis. Opal Koboi. (The other examinee was Julius himself, but there was no way he could pass. His culinary abilities were less than those of an unborn fetus. A cooked unborn fetus.) Koboi wanted to humiliate me more than anything. Her single goal in life was to surpass me after my ingenious iris cam beat her paltry DoubleDex in the science finals. (But fervent as she was in pursuing this goal, it was an impossible feat. I was too perfect to be humiliated in any situation.) The week before the exam, I met her in the corridors. The only thing she said to me, was “are you ready for a blast?” She seemed to know that I planned to use nitroglycerin to start a fire. It was the only way to sneak something past the examiner; I would disguise it as water.
